Have you tried different mushroom products on the market only to find out they were diluted with rice? Or that they were so weak that they had to have juices added to them to give them colour as they were just rice soup/mycelial biomass?
But your search has now finally ended when you discovered real mushroom-based products by Ninth Path Mushrooms… Now you might be wondering exactly how to use them, and which products are best suited for you.
In this guide, we will walk you through our different mushroom products, how to use them, and the best tips and tricks we have discovered here at Ninth Path.
Freeze-dried/Ground Lion’s Mane
Lion’s Mane mushroom becomes a light fine bright yellow powder when freeze-dried and ground and mixes well with pretty much everything.
- Sprinkle over meals or mix with meals.
- Add to porridge, smoothies, juices, hot chocolate.
- If you brew your own coffee, you can mix it to the coffee powder
- Make your own DIY quick liquid extract by mixing it with a bit of vodka (just enough to make a paste out of it) and let it soak covered for a week or so.
- Then, scoop out a tsp and add a cup of hot water to it (just before reaching boiling point).
- If you don’t like the taste, add some sugar, juices or infuse it with your favourite tea.
- Just make one serve to drink it immediately as this recipe is not designed to have enough alcohol to preserve it.
Can be a bit challenging:
- As an infusion:
- You will probably struggle to find an infuser that will hold it. The powder is very fine, and it will find its way out.
- It will still work but you will see a bit of sediment on the bottom of the cup which you can scoop out at the end if you wish but you can also eat it anyway
- We have a blend of Lion’s mane with other herbs/spices specially designed for infusions that you can try if that’s your preferred way of using it.
- By itself:
- It is not as bad as trying to eat cinnamon powder by itself, but we wouldn’t recommend it.
Freeze-dried/Ground Reishi and Turkey Tail
Reishi/Turkey Tail mushrooms are leathery mushrooms and, as such, they become a dark red (Reishi) or off white (Turkey Tail) fluffy/stringy mass when freeze-dried and ground.
- Add to meals, particularly juicy meals like stews, pasta sauces, salad dressing, noodle soups, creamy noodles, etc…
- Add to porridge, cereal (hydrated with some sort of milk), smoothies, hot chocolate.
- As an infusion / tea. Just be mindful, Reishi can be quite bitter. Turkey Tail is also bitter but more manageable than Reishi.
- We have a blend of Reishi / Turkey Tail with other herbs/spices specially designed for infusions that you can try if that’s your preferred way of using it.
Can be a bit challenging:
- By itself:
- It is not a pleasant experience…
- Mixed in water:
- It will not mix / dissolve in watery drinks / juices.
Mushroom Drops
These are very convenient to use as they can be added to any drinks, meals or even used by themselves.
- Just keep in mind they are 30% alcohol so, when using them by themselves, you may feel/taste the alcohol.
A couple of tips:
- Refrigerated:
- They do not need to be refrigerated for preservation, but the flavour can be better if refrigerated when you are using it by itself.
- Water:
- Turkey Tail adds a nice touch to a cold glass of water.
- Add to your morning coffee/tea so you tie it to a routine and won’t forget to use it.
- Keep it on top of your desk so you remember to have it.
If you are using Capsules
These are very convenient media to use - Just pop them once / twice a day using a liquid to swallow them.
Always good to note:
- Try to refrain from using Lion’s Mane based products later in the day as they may have a “kick” very welcome at the start of the day, maybe not just before bedtime.
- Though Reishi is frequently used at night, it will not make you drowsy if used during the day.
- Remember these products are food and not medications - As such, they don’t have a technical dosage because there are not clinical trials indicating how much to have/for how long to achieve an outcome. The serving portions suggested are based on how much our customers / ourselves have been using.
- We always recommend speaking with your doctor or healthcare provider prior to starting using any herbal food (including ours) if pregnant, breastfeeding, have a medical condition, taking medications or have an allergy to fungi or any of the components of this product or if you are under the age of 12 years old.
- Reishi as an infusion can be very bitter when left brewing for long. If you want a compromise of nutrition/flavour, try not to go beyond 5 min.
